About Dr. Newlon
Dr. Barbara Newlon received her Osteopathic Doctorate in 1981 from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, the founding school of Osteopathy. She is a licensed Family Practice Physician in California. She has been treating children in Marin County since 1985. She has completed more than 1,500 hours of postgraduate training in the cranial concept through the Cranial Academy, an affiliate of the American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Newlon is honored to have studied with several of the leading cranial sacral osteopaths in the United States, all taught directly by William Garner Sutherland, D.O., the founder and originator of cranial sacral osteopathy. These include Anne Wales D.O., Edna Lay D.O., Paul Kimberly D.O., Robert Fulford D.O. (who is discussed in Andrew Weil M.D.’s best-selling book, Spontaneous Healing), and Viola Frymann D.O. (founder of the Osteopathic Center for Children in San Diego, CA).
Dr. Newlon has taught the cranial concept since 1982 under the auspices of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, and at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California. She has served on the Board of the Osteopathic Center for Children in San Diego, California.
Dr. Newlon has specialized in the cranial concept in Osteopathy and whole body manual manipulation since 1983. She is also a certified Homeopath in California. She views both Osteopathy and Homeopathy as an alternative to allopathic drugs. Cranial Osteopathy is a specialty within the Osteopathic profession, like neurology or cardiology or surgery. There are only about 600 Osteopathic physicians nationwide who specialize in this form of treatment.
